, I'm Julian

First, about my site.

I started this website in late May of 2021 to host my portfolio. I've had a ton of fun building it and adding in little "Easter eggs." I'll often use random urls on the site to play around with design ideas. I also use the server to host some experimental scripts or apps. One of my favorite "portfolio projects" so far has been this interactive map displaying the general locations of my site's viewers.

Second, about me.

When I'm not sitting behind a terminal I'm probably bee-keeping (my newest hobby), doing home renovations, cooking, or if I'm feeling particularly bourgeois, wine tasting.

Early life & career overview

I was born & raised in Santa Rosa, California (about 50 miles north of San Francisco). At 18 I left to join the U.S. Air Force and study Computer Science while serving as an I.T. at Eglin Air Force base in Florida.
After leaving the Air Force and graduating with my B.A. in Computer Science I decided to build up my development skills by starting and growing a few web-apps.
My first startup/project, Botnie.com, offers environmental modeling and hosts one of the world's largest plant-focused databases — with extensive filters that help our users find the best plants for their environmental and personal needs. I built everything on the back and front-ends and continue to maintain it as it grows steadily.
My second startup/project, PremiumPuts.com, is a fin-tech service that provides market analytics and projections for options traders specialized in selling put contracts. Once again, I built out everything on the back and front-ends myself. Premium Puts is still growing steadily as it adequately fits the needs of a very small niche, however, this time, while developing the service, the market for similar (and often better) alternatives filled up fast.

Hobbies & fun facts

When I'm not sitting behind a terminal I'm probably bee-keeping (my newest hobby), doing home renovations, cooking, or if I'm feeling particularly bourgeois, wine tasting.

Going forward

Going forward, I'm looking to channel my passion for software development towards a startup that I believe has a positive long-term trajectory. As for the niche I'd like to work in ... I can get obsessed with just about anything from restorative farming to financial analytics. All it takes is the right mindset.
